I'm a writer and former long-time pre-school and kindergarten teacher with a master's degree in special education. I've taught at diverse inner-city schools as well as all-white suburban ones. I cover topics such as early childhood learning, the importance of play, and parenting. I've reared a son with autism so I write frequently about helping kids on the spectrum both at home and in the classroom.
Today, public schools are under attack and face serious challenges such as the teacher shortage, inclusion, too much testing, and inappropriate Common Core standards. Moms and dads need to step up, get involved, and stay informed. There are some folks who'd like nothing more than to see the destruction of our public school system so the rest of us need to stay vigilant.
